How To Find Your Email Address Book

Here is the easiest way to find your email address book:

  • Run your email program (or sign in to your online email account).
  • "Export" the addresses as a CSV (comma-separated value) file.
  • Save the file on your computer in a location you will remember (so you can Browse to it in the "Tell Someone" form).

Select your email program below, for specific instructions on creating the CSV file:

Outlook | Outlook Express | Thunderbird | GMail | Yahoo | AOL

From Outlook

  1. On the File menu select Import and Export.
  2. Select Export to a File and click Next.
  3. Select your Contacts folder and click Next. (Outlook 98 users: perform step 4 first.)
  4. Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) and click Next.
  5. Select the Contacts folder to export from and click Next.
  6. Specify a location on your system where you would like the file to be saved, and enter a name for the .CSV file. Then click Next.
  7. Make sure there is a check in the box next to Export Contacts from the Contacts Folder then click Finish to export the data to the .CSV file.

From Outlook Express

  1. Select Export from the File menu.
  2. From the Export menu, select Address Book.
  3. Select the file type Text File (Comma Separated Values).
  4. Click the Export button.
  5. Enter a file location where the file will be saved and enter a name for the file (file name should end in ".CSV").
  6. Click the Next button.
  7. Check which fields you wish to export. (Only the name and email fields will be used.)
  8. Click Finish to export the data.

From Thunderbird

  1. On the Tools menu, click on Address Book.
  2. On the Address Book's Tools menu, click on Export.
  3. Choose a location and file name.
  4. Next to "Save as type", select Comma Separated (*.csv).
  5. Click on Save.

From GMail

  1. Click on Contacts (left side).
  2. Click on Export (lower left).
  3. Select one of the CSV formats.
  4. Click Export (lower right).

From Yahoo

  1. Go to the Yahoo! Address Book and make sure that you are signed into your account.
  2. Click the Options link in the upper-right corner of the Address Book page.
  3. Click the Import/Export link.
  4. In the Export section, click the Export Now button next to the phrase "Yahoo CSV".
  5. When prompted, specify a location where you would like the file to be saved, and enter a name for the .CSV file in the Save As dialog box.

From AOL

  1. Log onto your AOL account.
  2. Go to Mail in the header and select More.
  3. Choose Address Book from the menu.
  4. In the window that comes up, select the addresses you wish to export.
  5. Click the Print button in the Address Book window.
  6. Do you wish to print (export) all addresses or selected addresses only? In the pop-up, check the correct button.  Click OK.
  7. In the Print dialog, default printer should be selected and Type should be Generic/Text only.  Press OK.
  8. In the Print to File Window, choose a location and enter a name for the file (file name should end in ".prn").
