George Gluck asks (by email):

How are users to be reassured that our deposits are safe?

90% will be insured by the FDIC. The other 10% will be the depositor's ownership stake in the bank. The depositor can help make that secure by participating in setting the bank's local lending priorities and getting behind those loans as a consumer (by patronizing the businesses that get CGB loans). Since CGB operations will be transparent, users can also look at CGB business plans, policies, and operations, to judge for themselves whether the operations are sound and to offer comments and suggestions for improvement.
