This is a great question. We do not have any policy about this and I have been pondering it for weeks. My feeling is that ANYONE and ANY organization should be allowed to support the Common Good Bank project formally. That is, they can donate (and get listed on the plaque on the donation page), help promote the project, agree to give a rebate to other members, etc.

The only sticky place is when it comes to Common Good Finance or Common Good Bank supporting a partner organization in return. If we call an organization "partner" then there is an implication that we approve of them. I think therefore that we need to make a distinction between partners and endorsers.

So here is what I propose: Any organization can apply to be a partner. Fill out the form on the partner page. If you have any doubts about the organization's suitability as a partner, send me a short email. We in the central Common Good Finance office will categorize each applicant either as a partner or as an endorser. Either way, they get listed on the CGB website.

I was approached by Yellow Book with interest in learning more about our Gunnison Common Good Bank efforts in the hopes of supporting us financially and have their company use our bank as evidence for supporting local grassroot initiatives. I don't find phone books or publishers in the Better World Shopper's Guide to make an informed decision about the business practices of Yellow Book. How can we as division organizers filter/screen businesses that are not local, but try to portray local support when looking for partnerships? Should we take on any partnership offer or have discretion? What are the repercussions of these decisions for CGF? I've asked Yellow Book to respectfully wait for me to consult with other DO's and do some research on their company before meeting to discuss partnership opportunities. Anyone else experience this in their organizing?
