FIRST DRAFT OF AN INVITATION. PLEASE COMMENT. IS ENOUGH COVERED? TOO MUCH?
The invitation is based on an idea for organizing the Campaign for a Common Good Economy as a process in which the Frontline Circle organized by Rick DeVoe introduces the public to the ideas of the Common Good Bank, and signs them up as Founding Members, whereupon they may take advantage of the Orientation and Education Circle and move on to the Community Building Circle, and in this way we create Common Good Communities ready to take full advantage of the Common Good Bank when the campaign succeeds and the bank opens it doors.
Campaign for a Common Good Economy
Orientation and Education Circle
INVITATION
Dear Founding Members,
The Orientation and Education Circle is responsible for orienting newcomers to the possibility that our Campaign for a Common Good Economy offers. When someone becomes a Founding Member through the efforts of the Front Line Circle it will be up to us to take them up into a process of orientation and education, to the extent they want it, so that if they want to be active in the Community Building Circle they will have the understanding needed to be productive.
I envision the Orientation as mostly one on one conversation and dialog and hosting orientation meetings.
Education I envision as creating a text book which gives a reasonably comprehensive introduction to understanding money, a description of mutual credit and democracy leading to consensus and basic ideas about creating the society to benefit everyone, including circle organizing. I imagine that we will create a syllabus and course leading to a Common Good Presenter Certificate.
Joining the Orientation and Education Circle requires a commitment to attending the course we develop and to attending and leading Orientation meetings. I expect a time commitment of between 4 and 10 hours a week and a commitment to becoming reliable to each other and developing our capacity to recognize each others individual gifts and commitments. Recognizing our gifts and commitments is how we become reliable to each other and gives a foundation for developing the practice of capitalizing our capacities.
We will be developing our understanding of sovereignty, which means how we take responsibility for creating the world we want. How do you find out what you want? How do you ask for what you want? And how do you tell if you are getting it?
Doing our work together well will result in increasing numbers of us being able to generate the ideas and enthusiasm necessary to create a society to benefit everyone.
I look forward to being joined by any and all of you who want to be presenters, have writing, editing, teaching and research skills and who want to create a new way of learning together.
If this circle appeals to you, go to the forum on http://www.commongoodbank.com to find out when our next meeting is and attend as an observer. If you decide that this is the circle you want to devote the most time to, please send me an email describing your particular interest, skills, and time commitment. I will respond promptly and we will schedule a clarifying conversation.
Sincerely,
John G Root Jr
Orientation and Education Circle Convener
