My Name is Chris Brown and I am working with Eric Krawczyk in helping to open a division here in Gunnison, Colorado. This past Saturday we attended a symposium here in Gunnison put on by High Country Citizens Alliance, which focused on the topics of sustainable economy. We pitched the Common Good project and we were successful in getting a few more people to sign up. I am looking forward to marketing this project in our community.

Has anyone considered harnessing the “Food Not Lawns” movement for a more sustainable food production process? Instead of gardeners coming to cut our grass we could employ “Organic Food Specialists” to tend our yards to produce organic foods. What each family doesn’t consume would be brought to market and sold returning a portion of the profits to the family to cover the costs of employing the OFS. Many lawn services are losing business and we could take that workforce pair them up with veteran food gardeners as supervisors to replan domestic use of land.
The Gunnison Valley is buzzing about the future of community prosperity and it’s not focusing on monetary wealth, but social, cultural, and agricultural wealth. Our Farmer’s Market community is next on our agenda to garnish partnership support as they provide the only resiliency to our community’s dependancy on outside goods. The food community lives closely to bartering and the value of these locally grown commodities. I can see the future of Gunnison’s prosperity beginning with CGB’s funding these new and needed projects.
