Common Good Finance
the revoLution with a bank

wherever you are
here's why

Sigh

Another 2 days experimenting with sending dozens of variations of the draft email newsletter. Tech support finally threw up their hands and said they don’t know why their server is rejecting it.

I finally figured out that the “policy violation” message really means that their software thinks our newsletter is spam. So I actually read through the hundreds of criteria that SpamAssassin uses to identify spam. (This week I sure feel like a geek.) Words like “bank”, “investment”, “legal” and even “read” and “online” tend to make email look like spam. I am working at saying what we need to say without using such words (much). Not easy.

Meanwhile, I set two possible dates for investor Q&A evenings and set up a meeting with another potential investor.

I’ll be glad to send the investor package to McCain. I’m sure he qualifies.

With regards to the application for the bailout money, it appears that every bank knows exactly HOW and WHERE to submit it. Don’t you know somebody who works at bank and has this information?

If not, I’ll post it at my blog, got some banker readers who might share.

I don’t exactly have a lot of money, am struggling to pay my server every month, but I suppose I can somehow come up with the $5 per mailing to send it to some legislators like Kucinich.

Here’s a relevant article on the bailout:

    Dear Christine,

Thanks. Nearly all of the local elected officials that I have spoken to in our area support the project enthusiastically. But none of them wants to actually do anything to help make it happen. Our state representatives showed polite superficial interest. My 20-second conversation with John Olver, our federal representative, was too brief for either of us to get a sense of whether he was interested and I intend to follow up on that this week. Other legislators have instructed me to “talk to [my] representative”.

Often, people suggest that I talk to one famous person or another (like Bill Gates, Will Smith, or Hank Paulson). My experience has been that there is no way to do this, unless you know someone who knows the someone. At your suggestion, I will try again running it by my legislator (we do have some friends in common). Please feel free to run it by your legislator as well.

    Hi William,

Have you submitted your proposal to Paulson or legislators and what was the response?

Considering that the government is throwing literally TRILLIONS of dollars at failing banks, insurance companies and corporations, it seems that it should be fairly easy to get a billion or so to get the common good bank started.

    Christine
